About Us
When the City of Wheat Ridge disbanded its Economic Development Task Force in 2002, a small group of local business owners were reluctant to let it go. They found that their mutual support and dedication to building a thriving business community had gathered momentum. Enterprise Wheat Ridge (EWR) began with a group of entrepreneurs including Pam Goff, Tom Abbott, Mary Cavarra, Don Eafanti, Odarka Figlus, Walt Pettit, and former Mayor of Wheat Ridge, Gretchen Cerveny, and Hank Stites. Not only did they feel passionate about helping Wheat Ridge businesses deal more effectively with economic challenges such as employment issues, business management and sales revenues, but they discovered the value of creating an interactive, grassroots community in the heart of Wheat Ridge. |

Enterprise Wheat Ridge bases its philosophy of economic vitality on inclusiveness and relationship-building. Run by a volunteer staff and board of directors, EWR brings together professional development opportunities for business owners, business-to-business networking events, and lively social functions to create and maintain community connections. EWR partners with the City of Wheat Ridge, the West Chamber, and Wheat Ridge 2020 to keep its members informed of developments and opportunities in the public sector that impact the business community.

According to one of EWR’s founders and former President, Pam Goff, the key of EWR’s growing membership success is due to the integrity of its members. “When people attend an EWR event, they always remark about the friendly, positive energy they encounter on a real, genuine level. We encourage people to meet other business owners through EWR, because one relationship tends to lead to another. You never know how those relationships may benefit you or how you may benefit others, whether it is finding sourcing for services, products, people, or information, or just sharing knowledge and experiences. Also, our members find that by working through EWR to find service providers, the level of quality increases because you are dealing directly with friends and colleagues in your own community."
Each month EWR invites savvy business leaders to speak on professional development issues at its monthly breakfast meetings. Past speakers include Mayor of Denver John Hickenlooper; Bob Malty, CEO of Lutheran Hospital; former University of Colorado President Hank Brown; Don Gallegos, President of King Soopers; and Don Elliman, the State of Colorado’s Director of Economic Development. Other programs have included such diverse topics as Leadership Training for business owners and Feng Shui techniques for small business environments.
Under the leadership of EWR’s current President Loretta DiTirro Schwankl, EWR launched its first annual Small Business Expo in 2008 and EWR’s membership is at a record high. We invite you to attend our upcoming events, which you can find on our Calendar page, and we are always interested in learning more about the people and businesses in our community and helping you succeed.
