We’ll be drawing for the Passport to WR prizes. You will want to bring 5 business cards to hand out and be ready to share specials, their business, etc to group.
As we open a new year of E WR, we are still collecting gift certificates and items for the 3 big prize packets for the Passport to Wheat Ridge program. We need all kinds of items and certificates from a variety of businesses. We also welcome monetary donations that can be used toward a Visa Gift card to be used as a prize. Please contact Loretta (303-594-1520) or lorettadschwankl@comcast.net by Friday, Jan 7 to arrange delivery of the item/certificate.
Thank you in advance!
WR2020 will be offering its fourth Planning and Development Academy starting in February. The academy is open to Wheat Ridge residents and business owners and strives to give students an overview of the city planning and development processes. There is no charge to participate, though donations are welcomed.
The academy consists of four classes and a field trip. Since the curriculum is progressive we ask that students commit to attending 4 of the 5 sessions to graduate. Graduation is held at a City Council meeting. Class dates are Tuesday evenings (2/2, 2/16, 3/2, 3/16, the field trip date will be set by the class) and will be held at the Wheat Ridge Recreation Center on Kipling. Dinner starts at 5:30 pm, classes run from 6-9 pm.
Topics covered include: Inner Ring Suburbs, Residential and Retail Markets, City Planning Fundamentals, Legal Issues in City Planning, Urban Design/Sustainable Development and How Deals are Done: The Development Process from the Developer’s Perspective. Questions: Denise Balkas, dbalkas@wheatridge2020.org or 720-259-1030. Deadline for class registration is January 15th.
Did you know we have children right here in Wheat Ridge who go hungry during the weekend due to lack of food in their homes? (These children receive Title I free and reduced lunch during the school days.) A community effort is being organized to address this issue directly.
E WR members can help by supporting the Backpack Program which provides nutritious food for children from Pennington Elementary School during the weekend. The Wheat Ridge Optimist Club and the CU Athletic Department are offering low-cost basketball tickets for the Jan. 16 men’s and women’s games. Men’s game is 2 pm. Purchase tickets at CUBuffs.com. Click on Tickets, then Purchase tickets online, it will then ask for User ID and Password. PENNINGTON is the User ID and Password as well. Purchase tickets by Jan 15.
Part of your $5.00 ticket goes to Backpack, and the Optimists and CU each donate another $3 for every ticket purchased. (E.g.: A $5 ticket or donation yields $6 to the Backpack Program.)
If you cannot attend the game but want to donate to an important cause, just send a check in $5 increments to Wheat Ridge Optimists, c/o Carl Cerveny, 3425 Moore St., Wheat Ridge, CO 80033 and/or call Carl at 303-233-1506.
Let’s keep the holiday spirit going!
